AEO Audit

AEO audit tool for pages AI engines can read

An AEO audit tool examines how a page presents information for AI engines to access and extract. AEO Pal, the AEO & GEO platform, checks structured data, crawler access, headings, direct answers, coverage gaps, and trust metadata, then connects the findings to proposed fixes on your own website.

All plans

AEO Audit

AEO Audit checks a page’s AI readiness through JSON-LD schema, AI crawler access, heading hierarchy, and direct-answer structure.

Schema checks cover Organization, WebSite, Service, Product, FAQPage, and BreadcrumbList. AI Crawler Access Check is part of AEO Audit: it examines robots.txt, CDN rules, and HTTP headers for crawlers including GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, and Google-Extended. Review access and content structure together; a useful answer still needs to be accessible to the crawler.

llms.txt Builder

llms.txt Builder generates and maintains the site’s /llms.txt file, giving the team a place to present a concise reference to its website information.

Keep the file aligned with current product facts and implemented pages. A reference file does not replace the page itself, crawler access, or useful source content. Its presence should not be described as a guarantee of indexing or citation.

Coverage Gaps

Coverage Gaps identifies missing facts, definitions, entities, and direct-answer blocks on a page.

Use the finding to ask a concrete question: what information would help this page answer its intended buyer question? Review suggested additions against approved product facts before publishing. Filling a gap should make the page more useful rather than add unsupported claims or repeat a keyword.

Answer-Ready Score

Answer-Ready Score rates how well a page’s headings, lists, and definition blocks suit AI extraction.

Read the score alongside the structural findings. A page with a clear definition, descriptive headings, and an ordered procedure can be easier to interpret than a page whose answer is buried in general copy. The score concerns page structure, not a prediction of citation probability.

Trust Signals

Trust Signals adds E-E-A-T and author trust metadata to pages.

Use accurate author and organization information that the business can support. Trust metadata helps explain who stands behind the content; it should not be filled with invented credentials, reviews, or outcomes. Keep the visible author information and structured facts consistent when reviewing a proposed change.

From a finding to a decision

How should your team use an audit finding?

Review access, information, and structure before deciding what to publish.
  1. 01

    Check access

Inspect the crawler-access findings before assuming that a missing citation is a content issue. Distinguish blocked access from an incomplete answer.
  2. 02

    Review the page’s answer

Compare the intended question with the page’s definitions, facts, headings, lists, and schema. Confirm that suggested additions are accurate.
  3. 03

    Approve a specific fix

Use Fix Queue to review a proposed change or authorize auto-publishing. Keep the audit finding connected to the page and its purpose.

Follow the evidence

AEO Audit: an illustrative example

The example follows a fictional export guide from a structural finding to a proposed first-party change.

Illustrative example · Fieldnote

Illustrative audit · fieldnote.example/export

The direct answer is hard to find

Fieldnote’s fictional export guide opens with general product copy. A review asks whether the export question receives a clear answer and whether the procedure’s headings and structured information match the content.

Keep the workflow connected

How does the audit connect to content and publishing?

The audit identifies page-level issues; Fix Queue organizes proposed changes. Content Studio creates or rewrites content under Brand Rules when the investigation calls for a more substantial update. Review the proposed answer against product facts before approving publication.

Monitoring provides a separate view of what AI engines actually returned. Read the captured answer alongside the site’s technical and content findings. Publishing a corrected page changes the information on your website; it does not edit a third-party AI model or guarantee a citation.

FAQ

AEO Audit questions

Fix Queue turns findings into proposed website fixes, including meta descriptions, JSON-LD, FAQ schema, direct-answer blocks, heading hierarchy changes, content updates, and new content. It is included on every plan. You approve each fix or authorize auto-publishing, and AEO Pal publishes through your connected WordPress, Shopify, or Webflow site.

No. You can review and approve individual fixes in Fix Queue, or grant permission for auto-publishing. AEO Pal publishes through your connected CMS after approval or authorization. Both workflows are available on every plan, so using the platform does not require handing over publishing decisions for every proposed change to your website.

AI Bot Monitor tracks AI crawler requests and flags errors such as 403, 429, and 503. It covers crawlers including GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, Amazonbot, and Bytespider. The feature is included on Agency and Enterprise. AEO Audit, which includes AI crawler access checks, is available on every plan.

AEO Pal detects issues and publishes fixes on your own website for AI engines to read. It does not edit third-party AI models. Enterprise AI Fact Audit can detect factual errors or outdated claims and draft corrective pages, FAQs, JSON-LD, or llms.txt changes for approval and publishing through the same website workflow.
